Anyone know a college that has distance online public speaking class?
Chris asked:
I am prepared overseas and I have to take a class and of course must be in line with no university here has publicly speak in my language. I was wondering if anyone knew of an academic institution regionally accrediated offering the class. Thank you
Truman

With the way you want it, nobody does. This is since it’s not a class that translates well into an online setup. I’ve seen some community colleges offer it as a telecourse but you had to physically come in once a week to do your recitals so it was only partially online. Speech recitals in front of an audience is the major portion of your grading.

There are definitely online classes in Public Speaking. Off the top of my head, I know of three colleges offering this course online:
1) Central Texas College
2) Columbia College
3) San Jacinto College
That said, there’s an even better way to get your 3 credit hours in Public Speaking. If you are stationed overseas, you are probably aware of DANTES/DSST exams. There is a 3 credit exam called Principles of Public Speaking that many colleges accept as credit for the Speech requirement. The test is comprised of two parts: a written exam and a 3-5 minute speech.
Hope that helps!
