start off with small groups of people you feel comfortable with – friends, family, if you’re in school a class that includes a few buddies. Also, try not to do the “um” thing that many do – but if you catch yourself doing it, just move on – it’s not as bad as you think. Don’t look into the audience’s eyes, look just above the tops of their heads. Try to give your speech as if you were having a discussion on the topic with just one person in private.

When all else fails, picture everyone in the audience in just their underwear.

    Take a speech class.
The two main challenges are a lack of confidence in what you are saying, and a lack of presentation skills.
Study your material – not just the words you are going to say, but know the facts behind it.
Learn how to speak – a class or watch great speakers.

OK, now the secret. Control your breathing. Take a deep breath, SLOW down and take your time. When you catch your voice getting weak or high pitched, make a dramatic pause – actually you are taking time to slow down your breathing and your mind!

Here are a few tips you might want to try out:
1.Practice in front of the mirror first.
2.Prepare what you want to say to the audience beforehand.
3.Try to smile as often as you can towards the audience.
    4.If you can’t smile,picture something funny.
5.Thank your audience for listening to you.
6.Try talking to more people to improve your speech and you will be less shy.

    prepare speech by making notes,
then CONDENSE NOTES TO HEADINGS THAT WILL ACT AS ‘TRIGGERS’
write notes for 10 mins for a 5 min speech, 20 mins for 10 min speech – in other words over-prepare.
D’ont be frightened of drying-up if you have plenty in reserve.
D’ont shout; the best teachers almost whisper so the pupils or audience are forced to strain their hearing.
Practise in front of a mirror or with a partner; if you make a mistake eg a mispronunciation, dont panic. Watch George Bush; he makes some awful gaffes but doesn’t let it fluster him!

Good points, but what really worked for me was a combination of ToastMasters and the energy therapy called e f t to lower my anxiety. Check it out here:

    All the best!
