    I’m sure you’re probably not looking to hear that “it depends on your situation” but it does really depend on what the speech would be judged on and your particular situation.
    With that being said, I would recommend a topic that you know well. When you know your topic, you’ll be more confident when you talk and it’ll show. Plus, speaking on a topic that you know well cuts down on the stress of trying to learn a new topic.

    Try talking about yourself – an interesting story, a challenge you overcame, etc… I’ve seen a number of speech contests (through Toastmasters) and in almost every case, a personal story has come out the winner. If you need a more formal topic, talk about something you’re passionate about. People really do light up when they speak about something they love and that passion and excitement is contagious – the audience and the judges will feel it.
