What’s the best way to reduce my fear of public speaking?

public speaking
yubi asked:

Since I moved to the United States, I 'the VE had a tremendous fear of public speaking. Almost 10 years later, this fear still is trying – shaping my life as I try to avoid it. I 'm a member of a local Toastmasters Club. The practice helps. But for some reason, the fear is still there. Since I started, I 'the VE is so accustomed to the public there, what has ceased to be a challenge. However, every time you even think to talk at work, my hands suderebbero. So important is taking place so that my future will reduce the fear. However, there are many methods out there that I 'm just disconcerting at this point as to what should I try. If you have personal experience in this area, please let know what is the best way to reduce this fear. Thank you

    You need to feel very confident about what your topic is when you speak. The more you know, the less nervous you will be that someone will call you out and make you look a fool, and then you’ll be able to discuss your topic. You’ll likely always be a little nervous before speaking, but once you get going, that will go away.

    Perhaps you could start by taking the initiative in conversations. If you start using “public speaking” skills in a more casual setting first, you could build up to becoming more comfortable with public speaking in a formal setting. Mostly, though, you really need to build up your confidence, believe that what you are saying is relevant and it’s important for everyone to hear it!

    Well, i’m a teacher and when i 1st started i had never stood infront of a class and taught anyone anything. The best thing is tell your self you can do it take a deep breath and clear your throat and then go for it, sure your voice with be a little shakey at 1st because yyour nerves, but it will go away, have confindence in yourself man, write the questions for the main points you will speak about on a post card, example’ what are the symptones of diabetes, is your 1st question, look at the card to remind yourself of what you are going to talk about, and eye contact is the most important thing… good luck

    I know several successful business colleagues who are still afraid of speaking in front of groups of people. Sometimes the fear doesn’t go but people speak in public when they need to anyway. I suggest preparation and practise. Read your speech through at least twice before you have to read in front of an audience. Concentrate on your breathing and remember many people are anxious about public speaking, there may be many in your audience admiring you for doing just that.

    I have been blessed with the gene that makes me a glutton for the spotlight…therefore, I have never experienced this fear. But for others who have, I have offered – successfully – this observation…

    If you have no problem speaking in small groups – say 1-3 people, I suggest you put yourself in the mindset that you do when you are speaking to that small group. There truly is no difference. If you are confident about your subject, you should be thrilled to share your thoughts. So just imagine you are speaking within a small group, something with which you are very comfortable.

    Good luck!

    Yubi, that fear will make you a better speaker. I hope you always keep it to a certain extent. Roosevelt was right in this instance , “The only thing you have to fear is fear itself!”
